NBA Hoopz  (Midway Home Entertainment) ©

In the early stages of development for this cover, I
along with the product marketing manager and our
professional photographer had scheduled a
photo-shoot at Shaq's house off of Mulholland
Drive in the LA's hills. The views from his luxurious
house are awe-inspiring.
Until you stand right next to Shaq, words can't
convincingly express how tall he really is!

In this cover, there was substantial photo-editing
done. The original drum scanned photo is not in
my possession to be used as a comparison
however, lighting wise, it was quite different from
what is shown here. The majority of the work on
this image centered around the illumination on
Shaq from the flames on the basketball (which I
also painted). The background was secondary and
was intentionally blurred to lessen visual confusion
and help focus the viewer's eye on Shaq.
As a footnote: The S in the superman logo tatoo on
his arm was originally in very sharp focus. I had to
blur out the S within the diamond (per our legal
team) yet I had to keep the skin texture in focus so
they would not be discontinuous.
